About Us

Our mission

Birding in Pt Difiance with Centro LatenoThe mission of the Tahoma Audubon is to conserve and restore natural ecosystems, focusing on birds, other wildlife and their habitats for the benefit of humanity and the earth's biological diversity.

From the original 150 members in 1969, TAS has grown to a total of 1,900 in Pierce County.  In 1999, upon receiving the 2.5-acre Adriana Hess Wetland Park and building  in University Place as a bequest, TAS relocated there and soon hired two staff persons.  Volunteers run the office 6 days a week from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.  The organization’s nine committees accomplish the work of the organization: publish a monthly newsletter; run education programs, field trips and monthly membership forums; organize volunteers and keep the board and finances running smoothly.
